Caractérisation du comportement chimique du complexe otosac-otolithe et réaction à des perturbations induites. ArchiMer
Edeyer, Anaick.
Teleost fish have the capacity to record in their otoliths, calcareous concretions located in the inner ear, the principal events (environmental and physiological) which punctuate their life. Otolith is made of CaC03 deposits on a protein matrix according to a circadian rhythm. Due to the quasi irreversibility of this process, otoliths can be compared to biological archives largely used to apprehend the fish ecology. The otolith bathes in the endolymph, a medium in which all the precursors of otolith formation forward. The endolymph chemical analysis revealed a heterogeneity of its principal components (proteins, total C02 and total Ca) which origin lies in the non uniform spatial distribution of the ionocytes in the saccular epithelium. Thus, in...

Recherche des marqueurs d'exposition aux contaminants et de fréquentation des habitats chez l'anguille Anguilla anguilla de l'estuaire de l'Adour : de la réponse moléculaire à la microchimie de l'otolithe ArchiMer
Tabouret, Helene.
In a context of decline of European eel (Anguilla anguilla L.) and search for biological markers of habitat use and quality, a multidisciplinary approach was engaged on the Adour estuary and its associated wetlands. Two axes were developed. The first axe aimed at highlighting the successive presence of the species in different ecosystems based on the otolith elemental composition. The second aimed at the evaluation of the chemical pressure underwent by eels based on the contaminant bioconcentration in soft tissues and the early molecular response to the chemical stress. With a view to the analyses of otolith elemental composition taking into account the 3D structure, the low elemental concentration in the matrix and keeping the finest spatial resolution,...

Use of otolith strontium:calcium and zinc:calcium ratios as an indicator of the habitat of Percophis brasiliensis Quoy & Gaimard, 1825 in the southwestern Atlantic Ocean Neotropical Ichthyology
Avigliano,Esteban; Saez,Margarita B.; Rico,Rita; Volpedo,Alejandra V..
We evaluate the simultaneous use of Sr: Ca and Zn: Ca ratios of the sagitta otolith as a potential indicator of the habitat of Percophis brasiliensis along a latitudinal gradient in the southwestern Atlantic Ocean (34-42ºS and 51-67ºW), in order to reliably identify fish stocks. Fish were collected in three sampling sites: Argentine-Uruguayan Common Fishing Zone (AUCFZ), El Rincón (ER) and San Matías Gulf (SMG). The otolith Sr:Ca and Zn:Ca ratios were determined by ICP-OES and EDTA volumetric method. The otolith Sr:Ca ratio was similar in the three sampling sites, while the Zn:Ca ratio was significantly higher in AUCFZ than in ER and SMG for all age groups. The discriminant analysis showed an association between the otolith Sr:Ca and Zn:Ca ratios from ER...
